Cincinnati Bengals sign offensive coordinator Bill Lazor

Cincinnati Bengals sign offensive coordinator Bill Lazor

"We have a lot of talent on this roster and I am excited for the opportunity to build the high-powered offense we have the potential to be," Lazor said in a news release from the Bengals. "This offseason will give us the chance to continue the success we had at the end of the year as we develop into a dynamic offense in 2018."

The Bengals fired offensive coordinator Ken Zampese on Sept. 15 after the team failed to score a touchdown through the first two games of the season and ranked No. 22 in total offense. Lazor was promoted to the position during his second season as an assistant coach. He joined the franchise on Jan. 18, 2016 as quarterbacks coach.

Lazor also served as an offensive coordinator and/or quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins. He played quarterback at Cornell before joining the college coaching ranks at Cornell, Seattle Seahawks, the University of Buffalo and the University of Virginia. Lazor also was an assistant for the Atlanta Falcons.

"He's very comfortable with how I see it, when asked about Lazor. "We basically wasted the 2,000 snaps of OTAs and training camp because it was through another man's eyes. When Bill took over," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis told reporters Tuesday, Bill was able to try and work through things that had been already done without trying to slow our players down. He tried to work in the constraints of the way things were and the things that had been installed."

Cincinnati finished the 2017 season ranked No. 26 in points scored and No. 32 in yards per game.

Mostly, executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum, general manager Chris Grier and coach Adam Gase said their evaluations of the team and the season require more time.

However, the 12-year veteran who said last week he doesn’t want to serve as a backup, Gase said 34-year-old quarterback Jay Cutler, might not return to the Dolphins next season.

“You could have asked me Week 1 if he ever wanted to be a backup quarterback,” Gase said. “I’m shocked you guys didn’t have any clue about that.

“It’s pretty obvious where he stands right now.”

When it came to questions such as whether the team had a discipline problem, whether there will be changes to the coaching staff and whether wide receiver Jarvis Landry is likely to return, what areas of the team need help, the trio said these were areas that need more time to evaluate.

As an example, Tannenbaum was asked whether there was a discipline problem, linebacker Lawrence Timmons’ unexcused absence the night before the opener, linebacker Rey Maualuga’s arrest and release after an incident at a nightclub, in light of offensive line coach Chris Foerster’s resignation in the wake of a video scandal, and the team’s No. 2 finish in the NFL in penalties and penalty yards.

“The season just ended,” Tannenbaum said. “We were 6-10, look back at the season,Authentic Dalvin Tomlinson Jersey, what went well, and the three of us are going to take our time, what we could have done better and do a comprehensive evaluation and look at everything.

“We look forward to putting a better product on the field next [season], and we’re going to look at all aspects of it.”

But Gase quickly confirmed he thought Cutler,Authentic Davis Webb Jersey, who was 6-8 as a starter, was the right choice as the fill-in after starter Ryan Tannehill went down with a knee injury in training camp.

“I think so,” Gase said. “He was somebody that had been in this system before. I thought that we could get our guys kind of moving in the same direction very quickly. It didn’t happen as fast as I was hoping. And there was a lot of good he personally did.

“There were probably some games we wish we could have done some different things. You look back at it, it’s not like there were a ton of options to find a starting quarterback. We felt like Matt [Moore] was a good option for us, but we felt like having two guys that we knew could play in a regular-season game was our best chance.”

Gase seemed optimistic when it came to Tannehill,Authentic Mark Herzlich Jersey, who is recovering from a knee injury late last season and in training camp.

“Really I don’t look at it as two injuries,” Gase said. “I look at it as he had the knee [injury late in the 2016 season]. We were advised, to handle it a certain way, and it didn’t work out. That’s kind of a part of the business that’s tough where we went with the advice we all felt like was good for us,Authentic Eli Apple Jersey, and so was he, and it didn’t work out.

Gase wasn’t sure whether Miami would pursue a backup quarterback in the draft or free agency.

” he said. “We’ve got a long ways to go whether it be free agency,“We’ll kind of see how everything plays out, draft, see if one of these young guys that we have develops over that time. I liked what [backup] David [Fales] did in this last game. I thought he did a good job,Womens Sterling Shepard Jersey, battled for four quarters, gave us a shot.

“We’re going to kind of see where all this goes.”

Asked whether the Dolphins might draft a quarterback in the first round, Grier gave a typical response for this time of year, “We’ve said we’ll always take the best player on our board.”

In discussing the desire to get back to the playoffs, the Dolphins’ brass said the desire is strong, and they said it in strong terms.

” Grier said. “We’ve got to get better. It’s not acceptable. We’re all ultra-competitive up here.”,“We’re 6-10

Dolphins’ management seem to think they can right the ship fairly quickly.,Overall

“I think one of the main things I like about our sport is every year there’s great stories,Womens Mark Herzlich Jersey,” Tannenbaum said. “You look at I think the NFC in particular, I think five of the six teams weren’t in the playoffs a year ago.

“So 2018 will be a fresh start. It’s up to us to work with our owner Steve [Ross)], who gives us a lot of great resources, to put a better product on the field. I believe in the people in our building and the coaches and how we do things.

“We’re going to have to tweak some things,Authentic Wayne Gallman Jersey, but overall I believe in where we’re going. We’re going to have to make some decisions, but again, like every organization, our sport is such where we can get this thing turned around. A year ago we had won 10 games. We’ve got to learn what we went wrong [last season] and try to get a better product on the field [next season].”

citing his age as the main reason he believes the team will go a different direction after missing the playoffs in 2017.,Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett said he doesn't expect the Seahawks to bring him back in 2018

"I probably won't be back next year,Womens Eli Apple Jersey," Bennett told the Tacoma News Tribune on Sunday, after a 26-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. "Just seems like it's a young man's game. I can see them going younger, with younger players. That's part of the game."

the 32-year-old with two Pro Bowl appearances said he thinks "a lot of changes" are in line. Bennett is signed through the 2020 season and is due a $4 million bonus in March.,The Seahawks missed the postseason for the first time in five seasons. As a result

"With me, I'm fine. I mean, I've loved being a Seahawk, whatever happens," he told reporters on Sunday. "You love the organization. You love the players that you played with. We've won a lot of games. So if I am not here I would never have any hard feelings toward the organization."
