Eli Manning continues to take the long view

Eli Manning continues to take the long view
eli-manning-continues-to-take-the-long-view

The only cure for what ails the New York Giants http://www.nflpackersofficialonline.com/PACKERS-MYLES-WHITE-JERSEY right now is time. They need time to develop their young players, time to get some of their key players back from injury, and they need to use their time to make better draft and personnel decisions than the ones that have led them to this rebuilding phase in which they find themselves. Some of those things are going to take a lot of time, as in next offseason and maybe part of next season. Some others could take less time, as in the remainder of the current season. One person who clearly understands this is Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who obviously wishes the team weren't losing but grasps the issues at hand. "We've got to keep working," Manning said on a conference call Wednesday. "We have some different guys in there than we did at the start of the season, we've got some new receivers playing and we do some good things. I think we can make some plays. We're just not executing every play the way we need to. Sometimes the defense has a great call and they win, but we're letting them win too much." Manning himself takes responsibility for much of this, and in many different ways. He self-examines and works on the things he needs to work on. Coach Tom Coughlin said Manning was missing too many throws high in Monday night's loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and that they've talked about it while reviewing the game film. "I saw a number of throws I could have made better," Manning said. "A couple of Cowboys Nick Hayden Authentic Jersey catches that you need guys to make, some were easy and definitely some were tougher catches. You have to step up and make some tough catches. We've got to run the ball better, block better. There are a lot of areas where I think everybody can improve, but it starts with me making great decisions, better reads and better throws." Manning also takes responsibility as a leader, working with his young receivers in his weekly film sessions and making sure they know what they're doing on the practice field. One of the reasons the Giants felt good about their plan to totally rework the offense this season under new coordinator Ben McAdoo was that they believed they had a reliable, steadying presence at quarterback around which to build that new offense, and that he would thrive in the new scheme. Coughlin said he's pleased with the results. "An awful lot was done to ensure that Eli be given a chance to come back and play very well this year," Coughlin said. "I think that the play at quarterback attests to that. It wasn't quite as high the other night as it had been, but his play has given us a chance." Manning will continue to give the Giants a chance to develop the offense around him. A team with huge question marks or constant change at quarterback would find this transition much more difficult. And once things do start to develop -- with time -- Manning will give the Giants a chance to win games. He knows that. He knows that he and everyone around him must continue to put in the work needed to make it all a reality. And while he's not enjoying a three-game losing streak, a 3-5 record or the likelihood of a fifth non-playoff season in six years, he understands that this thing the Giants are doing is going to take time. "We can bounce back," Manning said. "We can get http://www.nfl49ersofficialauthentic.com/Mike-Iupati-Jersey back to playing at a higher level. We have playmakers, good players, guys who can do good things. For a good number of them, it's their first time being in this position where we rely on them every game and every play to do their jobs. And we're figuring out how to do that."
