Playoff picture update: Jags fall back to fifth seed after Week 12 loss

Playoff picture update: Jags fall back to fifth seed after Week 12 loss
playoff-picture-update-jags-fall-back-to-fifth-seed-after-week-12-loss

the Jacksonville Jaguars let the title slip after a heartbreaking loss to the Arizona Cardinals Sunday. They only fell one seed (to No. 5), and the Titans are just a game ahead of them. With a favorable schedule ahead,After gaining the No. 1 spot atop the AFC South in Week 11, it will be on coach Doug Marrone to rally the troops the finish strong in December.

if the Ravens beat the Texans on Monday night, the only other change to occur was the Buffalo Bills claiming their sixth seed back. However, they would reclaim the seed.

who gave the Tennessee Titans a run for their money Sunday. Despite that,Up next for the Jags is the Indianapolis Colts, the Jags are a much more talented team that should win the game when matching the two rosters up on paper.

there were some solid performances on both sides of the ball, including strong outings from cornerback Pierre Desir and nose tackle Al Woods,Womens Logan Ryan Jersey,While it was difficult to see the Colts blow another second-half lead, who earned the highest grades from Pro Football Focus in the loss.

CB PIERRE DESIR, 82.4 OVERALL GRADE

three. Desir was rarely tested (one target for a 4-yard gain) but he was able to make plays on short passes into other defender’s coverage to help prevent the Titans’ from converting many short passes into big gains when he was in the vicinity. The rest of the Colts’ defensive backs missed a combined six tackles,Desir’s fourth straight start saw him rack up as many stops as he had done in his first three games combined, telling the story of how the Titans were able to sneak away in the fourth quarter.

DI AL WOODS, 82.3 OVERALL GRADE

Woods continued his fine form in run defense,Authentic Johnathan Cyprien Jersey,Facing off against his former team for the second time this season, tying a season high with four stops. Woods consistently had the better of the Titans’ interior offensive line and had no trouble disposing of the Titans’ tight ends when they attempted to trap him on some of their more exotic run schemes.

who had one of the highest game grades on the team. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett, however,Authentic Quinton Spain Jersey,The Colts also got a solid performance from tight end Jack Doyle, struggled in the loss.

QB JACOBY BRISSETT, 43.7 OVERALL GRADE

Brissett was under pressure on more than half of his dropbacks on Sunday,Authentic Taylor Lewan Jersey, and it clearly had an effect. The young quarterback out of NC State completed just 4-of-12 passes when under presure for just 27 total yards. When he was given time to throw Brissett completed 13-of-17 throws for 169 yards and a 107.2 passer rating.

TE JACK DOYLE, 81.3 OVERALL GRADE

Doyle hauled in seven of eight targets and earned 36 of his 94 yards after the catch. Doyle caught passes when matched up against five different defenders in coverage and his quarterback had a 115.6 passer rating when targeting him. Five of Doyle’s catches resulted in a Colts first down.

The Titans may not impress too many people with how they're playing.

For now, all that matters to Tennessee is finding a way to keep winning.

They have won five of their past six,Authentic Brian Orakpo Jersey, and the past four victories all have come by four or fewer points.

Tennessee (7-4) heads into December with its most wins since 2008, and beating the Colts 20-16 for their first win at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis combined with a loss by Jacksonville has put the Titans back on top of the AFC South.

The wins may be ugly, but coach Mike Mularkey says winning still says a lot about the Titans.

never waiver regardless of the score, a close group, what time of the game it is," Mularkey said Monday. "We think we can win until the final buzzer,"I've used this word many a time: resilient, that's just the way we are, that's this team. It says a lot about our guys in that locker room."

Whether the Titans end their playoff drought at eight seasons still remains to be seen because they have some areas on offense to improve on over the final five games.

giving him six interceptions over the past two games. The third-year quarterback has 12 interceptions, the most of his career,— Marcus Mariota was intercepted twice by the Colts, and only nine touchdowns.

— Tennessee managed only 9 yards on 11 rushes by halftime. Derrick Henry didn't have a single yard on just three carries, didn't get the ball in the third and finished with 79 yards on 13 carries thanks to a dominant fourth quarter .

something he's seen at some point in every game this season. In the fourth quarter,Mularkey said it's encouraging to see what the Titans are capable of, the Titans held the ball for more than 11 minutes and piled up 12 of their 19 first downs.

we're trying to play our best football, for 60 minutes,"You've got to play your best football, that's key," Mularkey said.

especially this time of year. This is when you've got to start kicking it in and playing your best and knowing that if you don't,"I promise you they're trying to do that. That's what we've got to do, you still can win."

Now the Titans get a chance for a little payback Sunday when they host the Texans, who face a short week after playing Monday night along with traveling for back-to-back road games. Houston looks nothing like the team that routed Tennessee 57-14 on Oct. 1.

"That game is far enough back that I think it's out of their system,Authentic Sylvester Williams Jersey," Mularkey said. "I think our guys know it's a division game we have to win."

Then the Titans face their last road trip starting at Arizona before visiting San Francisco. Keep winning, and the Titans could be hosting the Jaguars with the AFC South title on the line in the regular-season finale.

Mularkey said he keeps reminding his Titans not to worry about what anybody else in the NFL is doing.

the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans — get steamrolled in potential playoff previews. Tennessee was completely outclassed in a 40-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the Rams’ high-flying offense went quiet in a 24-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. It was Minnesota’s most impressive performance to date and it propelled them up to No. 4 in the latest power rankings.

Here’s a look at where each team stands in NESN.com’s NFL power rankings as we head into Week 11. (To see our Week 10 power rankings,Womens Sylvester Williams Jersey, click here.)

1. Philadelphia Eagles (9-1; last week’s rank: 1): Philadelphia looked sluggish during the first half against the Dallas Cowboys, but Carson Wentz and the running game turned on the jets in the second half to blow out the Cowboys 37-9.

as the Patriots won their sixth consecutive game. New England returns home in Week 12 to face an abysmal Miami Dolphins team. Since opening the season 2-2,2. New England Patriots (8-2; 2): Tom Brady picked apart the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City on Sunday,Womens Johnathan Cyprien Jersey, the Patriots have dominated the opposition and are the clear-cut favorite in the AFC.

but Drew Brees showed he’s still a star,3. New Orleans Saints (8-2; 3): The Saints’ winning streak appeared to be in jeopardy Sunday, rallying New Orleans from a 15-point deficit to defeat the Washington Redskins in overtime. A matchup with the Rams awaits in Week 12.

4. Minnesota Vikings (8-2; 6): Head coach Mike Zimmer took Todd Gurley and the deep ball away from the Rams,Womens Quinton Spain Jersey, and the result was a 24-7 win for the Vikings. Case Keenum will keep his job as long as he continues to minimize mistakes.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers (8-2; 5): In what was billed as a playoff preview, the Steelers smacked the Titans 40-17 on “Thursday Night Football.” A Week 15 tilt with the Patriots should determine who gets the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

but the Vikings put an end to that. It doesn’t get any easier for the Sean McVay’s youngsters,6. Los Angeles Rams (7-3; 4): The Rams had been undefeated on the road,Womens Taylor Lewan Jersey, as the red-hot Saints visit Sunday.

7. Carolina Panthers (7-3; 10): If the Cam Newton who terrorized the Dolphins in Week 10 continues to show up, the Panthers will be a threat in the NFC.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars (7-3; 9): We really can’t believe Blake Bortles is probably going to start a playoff game. Better get ready to call your bookie.

9. Atlanta Falcons (6-4; 12): Atlanta got a huge win over the Seattle Seahawks and moved into the sixth NFC playoff spot with the win. The Falcons still have the smell of a pretender but can move to 7-5 with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12.

Kansas City now has lost four of its last five games. Luckily for the Chiefs,10. Kansas City Chiefs (6-4; 7): It seems like years ago the Chiefs rolled the Patriots in Gillette Stadium. After losing to the lowly New York Giants on Sunday, the Buffalo Bills come to town in Week 12 and there’s no telling who Sean McDermott will start at quarterback.

no Kam Chancellor and a whole lot of issues for Seattle’s defense against the Falcons. Still, Russell Wilson almost rescued the Seahawks,11. Seattle Seahawks (6-4; 8): No Richard Sherman, but Pete Carroll’s brutal fake field goal call ended up costing Seattle in the 34-31 loss.

however,12. Tennessee Titans (6-4; 11): Marcus Matriota threw four interceptions and the Titans were hammered by the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Tennessee still is in a good position to make the playoffs, as one of five teams above .

13. Detroit Lions (6-4; 14): Matt Prater’s game-winning 52-yard field goal rescued the Lions from what would have been a devastating loss to the Chicago Bears. They’ll put their four-game Thanksgiving winning streak on the line against the Vikings in Week 12.

the Cowboys were embarrassed by the Eagles on “Sunday Night Football.” If left tackle Tyron Smith can’t play against the Los Angeles Chargers,14. Dallas Cowboys (5-5; 13): Without their three most important players, it will be another long day for QB Dak Prescott.

15. Baltimore Ravens (5-5; 18): The Ravens shut out the Green Bay Packers to move to .500 on the year and into the sixth and final AFC playoff spot. Don’t let that fool you, though: Baltimore has no business being in the playoffs.

especially with Rishard Matthews sitting this one out. Mariota appeared tentative and the Titans played the game close to the chest. On Monday, Coach Mike Mularkey said that Davis must improve his run blocking. It’s an odd comment for the coach to make regarding his young receiver,It was a disappointing day for Davis and the Tennessee passing offense in a great spot against the Colts weak defense. It was a prime blowup spot, but don’t expect it to amount to much, especially with Matthews likely to miss more time.
